Description

Weapon Employment Zone (WEZ) analysis is a method for showing how effective a weapon system is throughout its range of employment in terms of hit percentage. WEZ analysis is explained, and applied throughout the book to show how effectiveness can be improved thru various means.

Accuracy and Precision for Long Range Shooting is written in the same easy to understand language that made Applied Ballistics for Long Range Shooting such an enjoyable and effective book. Long range shooting can be very technical. However, author Bryan Litz, communicates these complex ideas in layman terms, so most average shooters can master the subject with little difficulty.

Ever wonder how much spin drift, Coriolis affect, or using G1 vs. G7 BC’s affect your chances of hitting a target? In Chapter 10 for example, you’ll learn that ignoring spin drift in ballistic calculations reduces hit percentage on a 10″ target from 21% to 15% at 900 yards for a specified environment and cartridge.

In Chapter 6, you can see that reducing muzzle velocity variation from 20 fps Standard Deviation (SD) to 10 fps SD improves hit percentage on a 5″ circle at 500 yards from 83% to 93%. These are just two brief examples of the types of analysis used throughout the book.

The book is broken into 3 parts: Precision, Accuracy, and WEZ analysis.

1

Part 1: Precision

Explores how hit percentage is affected by variables affecting group size, including:

  • Muzzle velocity variation
  • Range estimation error
  • Wind estimation error, and
  • Inherent rifle precision
2

Part 2: Accuracy

Which is how well the group is centered around the aim point. Chapters in the Accuracy section include:

  • Leveling your sights
  • Trajectory modeling
  • Secondary trajectory effects
  • Calibrating ballistic solutions, and
  • Live fire verification
3

Part 3: WEZ Analysis

Analysis including:

  • 300 Winchester Magnum
  • 300 Win Mag vs. .338 Lapua Mag
  • Score Shooting
  • Wind Sensor Array design
  • Varmint hunting
  • Medium and big game hunting
  • Military and tactical shooting

I got into this sport and really enjoyed it I started with some intense load development and then needed some help to take it to the next level because you will hear a lot of opinions on ballistics but I was overwhelmed by B.S. and just needed solid facts in moving forward and that is what I got after reading Bryan Litz books and DVD's. I had to read a lot of the pages in the book 3 or 4 times before I got it but I got it and once you got it you got it !! Anyone that is trying to excel in long range shooting Applied Ballistics is a must. And I would like to thank the whole team at Applied Ballistics for their dedication and all the testing they do to verify facts.
